Good morning! I’m in the suburbs visiting my mom for the long weekend. Her place backs up to the woods and it’s such a luxury to peer out the window into a dense green thick of late summer foliage.
On the subject of moms, my friend showed me this page from her purse journal the other day. She passed it around at a music festival and asked everyone to draw a picture of their mom from memory.
What accessories would you draw onto your mom? I’d give mine a book and and some reading glasses, with a big claw clip holding up her long heavy hair. And if she were drawing me, she’d probably give me a speech bubble saying something to annoy her. That’s love!
For this month’s installment of repeats, we’re talking dream-fit denim, hair and skin products I’m obsessing over, and the album that’s blaring through my earbuds on the train.
All proceeds from paid subscriptions in August (both recurring monthly payments + upgrades made this month) will be donated to mutual aid in Gaza. I’ll be donating directly to Stephanie H. Shih who has been distributing resources in Gaza for the last year and a half. You can learn more about Stephanie’s work here.
It’s jeans weather again!! Rejoice!!!
I had my own Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants moment this summer when my best friend was cleaning out her closet and gifted me a pair of Wranglers that fit like a miracle. Wranglers generally don’t fit me well (their hip-to-waist ratio is not my friend) so this felt like kismet.
The mid-rise loose light wash jean is perhaps the most universal pair of pants — they go everywhere and with anything. They make me feel very ‘90s tv show main character running errands. And most importantly, they’re so comfortable I could sleep in them.
I’ve also had this vintage Banana Republic skirt on repeat, which I bought last month at
’s pop-up. I’d been on the hunt for a skirt exactly like this for a long time but hadn’t pulled the trigger — leave it to Kendall to find me the perfect one.I waxed poetic last month about the life-changing scent of FUR’s signature oil (not sponsored), and I’m not done talking about them yet. This month I used their new Flash Repair Jelly (now sponsored and loving it!) after every shower, followed by the oil, and felt like a slick little baby being pampered at a hotel spa.
Another bathroom cabinet pick-me-up: Ceremonia’s leave-in conditioner is actually making my hair noticeably softer and shinier. This is a shock to me because I have never felt legitimate results from a leave-in conditioner before, and I started getting compliments on the luster of my hair immediately after using this one. I’ve found it especially helpful in this late summer period to keep frizz at bay during humid afternoons. Doesn’t hurt that it smells delicious, too.
I’ve never been one for an elaborate post-shower routine, I really just want to get dry and get out of there (I despise a transitional phase). But now as I flash jelly, and I oil, and I lotion, and I leave-in condition, I have come to terms with the benefits of this particular transitional phase. Now, how do I improve waiting in line at the grocery store?

A comeback in the lip rotation — I’ve been reaching for this Soshe lip liner in shade Speakeasy a lot this month, usually topped with a swipe of sheer berry.
There is something about a crisp fall breeze that gives the lip liner rolling around in the back of my cabinet a new novelty. The 13 Going on 30 of it all — a mid-2000s magazine columnist sliding on a MAC Spice lip pencil in the backseat of a taxi with Olympic-level precision while “Suddenly I See” hums over the radio. That’s how a good lip liner makes me feel.
I, like every other 20-something inside your phone, have had Audrey Hobert’s debut album Who’s the Clown? on repeat this month. Her breakout single “Sue Me” caught my attention immediately upon release — honestly I hadn’t been that captured by a relatively unknown pop girl since I heard “Pink Pony Club” in 2020 and spam texted all my friends about how insane this new artist Chappell Roan is (lol).
Audrey, who already has notable writing and directing credits throughout Gracie Abrams’s catalogue, captures the Gen Z experience in a way I haven’t heard anyone else be able to. Her lyrics are funny and intensely vulnerable, and her melodies twist and turn into unpredictable territories as she describes situations like: showing up to a date with wet hair, wondering whether she should go out when she already did her skincare, and feeling really lame for staring at her phone waiting for a text back.
“Sad old me showed up with wet hair / Like it didn't matter and I didn't care” on Wet Hair
“But I got my creams on and my gown on / And I don't think anyone cares if I go or not” on Bowling Alley
“I'm takin' thirst traps, and I'm wakin' up at noon / I think he'll text back when I'm in the shower / I used to kick back, watchin' movies and the news / But now I'm lame, it's such a shame, I used to be so super cool” on Thirst Trap
I also find it refreshing to see a pop artist who places less emphasis on traditional “glam.” Her style seems to draw a lot of inspiration from the ‘80s and mid-2000s, centering on colorful, playful pieces with a bare(ish) face and often a signature messy side ponytail secured with a scrunchie.
This thrifted eccentric style aligns well with Gen Z’s desires to express themselves through a uniquely curated closet of hard-to-find pieces. There’s a humor to her styling that reflects the lyrical content of the music, meant to be taken both completely seriously and not seriously at all. I mean, the girl’s wearing Dansko clogs on her album cover. We have to clap and cheer.
Last month I wished for more s’mores, more trips to the movie theater, more dips in chilly water, and more sticky walks in the park. I indeed ate an insane number of microwave s’mores and went to the movies more times than I had all summer (Sorry, Baby and Oh, Hi! were big hits for me).
In September, I hope for chilly mornings and sunny afternoons, long dinners with loved ones, and fewer blisters because I have important autumnal shoes to wear and my feet are refusing to cooperate. What are you looking forward to in September?
