Great job writing this. I kid you not, I read this last night and while out today, I saw an American flag sweater and I immediately thought of this piece! I was too far to tell if it was RL or Brandy, but I was so curious about it all 😂
This gave me "dearest gentle reader..." vibes in the very best way. I flock towards Yeehawt with the same fervour London's high society swoons over Lady Whistledown's pamphlets.
I will add this piece to my pile of Yeehawt favourites! The pieces where you transcend the realm of fashion and into conversations around culture and society, are my absolute favourite (says the sociologist). As you well said to me once "fashion is something we engage with whether we want to or not because we all have to get dressed everyday", and seeing you reflect on how fashion both shapes and is shaped by larger societal and political trends makes me thirsty for more!!
This was so beautifully put together and researched and I absolutely loved reading it... And I agree on the coffee shop stool debacle, but I am in fact learning the very same thing. The story is outside.
This was fascinating! Thank you for taking us down the St. George / Brandy Melville rabbit hole, which this elder millenial did not know about!
thank you lindsay! it truly is such a weird and deep rabbit hole
Best thing to come out of St. George's mostly odd vibe, was being introduced to your substack. An avid subscriber now!!
from: one of the women confused by the libertarian/fascist nature to Brandy Melville from the St. George picnic table discussion
soooooo lovely to meet you! clearly the universe conspired for all of us to sit at that table together
so lovely to meet both of you, and so lovely to be sweater twins Mac!
so nice to meet you in matching knitwear<3
