Your Vintage Requests: Funky Silver Jewelry, Men's Wedding Attire, and More
Who's the modern Joan Didion...? And 40+ secondhand pieces inspired by your wishlists!
Good afternoon from the library. My A/C is on the fritz, and I’m losing grip on reality after a week of my apartment feeling like a box of hot Jell-O. I’ve resigned myself to this ice-cold public sanitarium to keep my brain from bubbling out of my skull.
Last night I went to see Lili Anolik and Matt Starr chat about her new book Too L.A.: Letters Never Sent (But Some Were), a collection of Eve Babitz’s mostly unsent letters that were unearthed after she died. I loved the conversation and adored Lili’s first two books on Eve.
Who’s the modern Joan and Eve?, someone in the crowd asked. Lili said Joan today would be where people are paying attention, maybe in TV, perhaps with a career like Lena Dunham. As for where an Eve might be today? “She’d be on the fringes of YouTube.”
Lili called this book Eve’s second masterpiece, a companion to her magnum opus Slow Days, Fast Company, and I’m already having a great time 30 pages in. If you’re still looking for a summer read, let this be your sign.
