Kate Glavan Wants You To Lift Heavy Weights and Wear Fugly Shoes
HAWT SEAT #1 feat. your fav seamossgirlie
Welcome to HAWT SEAT, a guest feature in the likeness of my monthly repeats letters. Today’s celeb columnist: Kate Glavan.
kate glavan is a polka dot lover, marathon runner, and cat mom who writes the newsletter Gen-Z Gov and hosts the anti red pill wellness podcast Seamossgirlies. Kate, tell us what’s been on repeat for you lately…
Nike Air Rifts
I spent my 27th birthday in Paris this past November. My boyfriend and I were walking in and out of shops before our dinner reservation when I saw the store Naked Copenhagen. I didn’t know they had a Paris location, but I do know that I spend a good chunk of time bookmarking their Instagram posts. I walked in and I finally saw my dream shoe IRL that I had bookmarked just weeks before.
The brown leather and small jewels… so me. These shoes make me feel like myself — a bit funky, bold, and different.
Merrell Jungle Mocs
These are the shoes I throw on when I’m being told “we have to leave now or we’ll miss the train.” Some may view these shoes as fugly, but I see that as their primary selling point! I could easily walk 10,000 steps1 in my beloved Jungle Mocs, and I plan to have these with me for the rest of my life. No notes.
Using my weekly planner
As someone who works freelance, I find my brain to often forget small tasks and so I always need an ongoing to-do list with my professional and personal commitments. My to-do lists were quite literally scattered around my apartment, so I got a weekly planner to organize my shit for 2026.

I have to say… my anxiety has significantly been reduced by simply writing things down in a more organized fashion! Bonus points if you bedazzle your planner and collect fun stickers for it.
Lifting heavy weights
I know a lot of women feel intimidated by the gym because it’s full of sweaty gym bros who take up too much space. Women were probably not taught how to lift growing up or expected to be at the gym. It’s a space that women don’t feel like was made for them or welcomes them. While all of this is true, it is fundamental to your health that you as a woman lift heavy weights. Lifting heavy weights in your 20s and 30s builds up your bone density to protect against hip fractures and osteopenia in your future.

Lifting is something I haven’t always loved for the reasons I mentioned about the environment of the gym, but I view lifting heavy weights as brushing my teeth — it’s something I need to do for my health.
I’ve never felt better in my body than how I feel now while lifting heavy weights. This is coming from someone who played collegiate volleyball, ran 3 marathons, has done 100+ solidcore classes, and completed 300+ SoulCycle classes. I plan to talk more about this on my podcast Seamossgirlies, if you want to tune in!
GAP Sweatshirt + Brandy Melville Sweats
I believe in a good rotting uniform for the winter… it helps me transition from day to night even when the sun doesn’t come out all day in London. Brandy sweats somehow fit me and they are the best sweats I’ve found2… maybe my most toxic take to date online. Pair it with a navy GAP hoodie and I am ready to sit on the couch and be useless! A very important self-care habit.
Ragebaiting my kittens
Sometimes you foster and then fail — that’s how I ended up with two British tuxedo kittens named Suki and Pinkie. These kittens have saved me during the depths of winter — providing me a sense of purpose, something to care for, etc. I love to ragebait the kittens with new toys and see how their goofy minds will respond to my antics. Never gets old.
Playing gin rummy at the pub
When you live with your significant other in a new country (aka without as many friends), we spend a lot of time together in a way where I feel as if our brains are intertwined. We’ve recently started bringing a deck of cards to the pub on our nights out together to have something fun to do even if it’s just us two. It’s also a great way to get off your phones during a cozy night staying in. Highly recommend keeping a running tab of wins/losses in your notes app to add to for the rest of your lives together!3
Planet Nusa LS2 Air + Oversized T-Shirt
I’ve been blessed with a 40°F winter over here in London, which means I don’t really have to layer up on my runs as I train for the Copenhagen Marathon. I have been looking for fun ways to spice up my running fits, and I love a layered long sleeve/short sleeve look. I’ve started pairing my beloved Planet Nusa LS2 Air top with the little planet print underneath a vintage t-shirt. Endless combos with this formula!
UNNA Everywhere Pants
I’ve been a huge fan of this Swedish running brand and I recently got a few pieces gifted from them. These pants are absolutely perfect for a sporty outfit, a hike, a run, a rainy bike ride… you name it. I really adore the brand ethos of “Finish in a Good Place” and how they distinguish themselves in the running space when most brands cater to the hypermasculine, biohacking bros. UNNA is for everyone, and I love to see how thoughtful a small brand is in their marketing, community, and quality of product.
Going on a run and ending at a new coffee shop or bakery
Sometimes I love running laps around the same park, but other times I need mental stimulation to keep my legs moving. As someone who moved to London a little over a year ago, I’ve been exploring the city with my runs to check out new spots and log my miles for marathon training.
It also doubles as motivation to get outside while it’s pitch black outside… I love knowing I have a treat at the finish line!

+1 to that, they’re so supportive and cushy.
Yessss I’m adamant that Brandy sweats are the best ever.
I have too many abandoned games notes… making a mental note to compile them into one masternote (of me beating my partner at every card game that’s ever been invented).

Love UNNA
So playful - great rec!
Love this series and it made me so happy to see gin rummy mentioned - I used to play it with my fam now I'm inspired to bust out the cards again 💕
